Facebook-loving parents name their baby "Like"

Though we haven't seen any of the baby pictures, the newest daughter of Lior and Vardit Adler is hopefully cute as a button. Because, well, she's named after one — Facebook's cherished "Like" button, that is.

Yes, this Israeli couple decided, after naming their first child Dvash ("honey") and their second kid Pie that it was time to go digital, and turned to "one of the most famous icons in the world" for inspiration, according to Lior.
He told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that Like could be a modern equivalent of the traditional Jewish name Ahuva, which translates as "beloved."
But isn't Like a weird name? "I believe there will be people who will lift a eyebrow," acknowledged Like's proud father. And to be fair, it's got a slightly nicer ring than "Facebook," recently bestowed upon a newborn girl in nearby Egypt.

Women 2 Drive x Saudi Arabia

We have searched for laws that prohibit women in Saudi Arabia from exercising their right to drive their own vehicle but have not found anything that points to such [a prohibition] in Saudi traffic laws. Therefore, what we will do cannot be considered a violation of the law. We therefore have decided that beginning on Friday the 15th of Rajab, 1432, which corresponds to the 17th of June, 2011:

• Every women in possession of an international driver’s license or one from another country will begin driving her car herself whether to reach her place of work, drop her children off at school, or attend to her daily needs.
• We will take photographs and videotapes of ourselves driving our cars and post them to our Facebook page in order to support our cause: I will drive starting June 17
• We will adhere to the dress code (hijab) while driving.
• We will obey the traffic laws and will not challenge the authorities if we are stopped for questioning.
• If we are pulled over we will firmly demand to be informed of which laws have been violated. Until now there is not one traffic law that prohibits a woman from driving her own vehicle herself.
• We do not have destructive goals and will not congregate or protest, nor will we raise slogans. We have no leaders or foreign conspirators. We are patriots and we love this country and will not accept that which encroaches on its security and safety. All that is involved [in this matter] is that we will begin to exercise our legitimate right.
• We will not stop exercising this right until you find us a solution. We have spoken out on too many occasions and no one has listened to us. The time for solutions has come. We want women’s driving schools. We want Saudi drivers’ licenses [for women] like all other countries in the world. We want to live a complete form of citizenship without the humiliation and degradation that we are [currently] subjected to everyday because of our dependence on a driver.
• We will launch volunteer campaigns to offer free driving lessons for women beginning on the date that this announcement is issued and we wish for everyone to support us.

Satoshi Says...

What accounts for the markedly lower average level of physical attractiveness among black women? Black women are on average much heavier than nonblack women. The mean body-mass index (BMI) at Wave III is 28.5 among black women and 26.1 among nonblack women. (Black and nonblack men do not differ in BMI: 27.0 vs. 26.9) However, this is not the reason black women are less physically attractive than nonblack women. Black women have lower average level of physical attractiveness net of BMI. Nor can the race difference in intelligence (and the positive association between intelligence and physical attractiveness) account for the race difference in physical attractiveness among women. Black women are still less physically attractive than nonblack women net of BMI and intelligence. Net of intelligence, black men are significantly more physically attractive than nonblack men.
The only thing I can think of that might potentially explain the lower average level of physical attractiveness among black women is testosterone. Africans on average have higher levels of testosterone than other races, and testosterone, being an androgen (male hormone), affects the physical attractiveness of men and women differently. Men with higher levels of testosterone have more masculine features and are therefore more physically attractive. In contrast, women with higher levels of testosterone also have more masculine features and are therefore less physically attractive. The race difference in the level of testosterone can therefore potentially explain why black women are less physically attractive than women of other races, while (net of intelligence) black men are more physically attractive than men of other races.

Sugar Ray Leonard

Boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard reveals in his new book “The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring” he lets on that he was sexually abused by an Olympic boxing coach. The New York Times got the deets:

Leonard writes that when the coach accompanied him as a 15-year-old and another young fighter to a boxing event in Utica, N.Y., in 1971, he had the teenagers take a bath in a tub of hot water and Epsom salts while he sat on the other side of the bathroom. They suspected “something a bit inappropriate” was occurring but did not want to question a strong male authority figure.
Several years later, Leonard describes sitting in a car in a deserted parking lot across from a recreation center, listening intently as the same coach, said to be in his late 40s, explained how much a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics would mean to his future.
He was flattered, filled with hope, as any young athlete would be. But he writes: “Before I knew it, he had unzipped my pants and put his hand, then mouth, on an area that has haunted me for life. I didn’t scream. I didn’t look at him. I just opened the door and ran.”
He adds that when he first decided to discuss the incident in the book, which is co-authored with Michael Arkush, he offered a version in which the abuser stopped before there was actual contact.
“That was painful enough,” Leonard writes. “But last year, after watching the actor Todd Bridges bare his soul on Oprah’s show about how he was sexually abused as a kid, I realized I would never be free unless I revealed the whole truth, no matter how much it hurt.”

Common x White House

I woke up with the sunshine

A sunshine I had never seen

There was light at the end of it

Reminded me to forever dream

I was dreaming I walked into the White House

With love on my sleeve

And love for each and every one of you

Reminding you to believe

These are the words of a believer, achiever

Leader of the globe

feed the souls of those in need

I bleed the blood of the struggle

Walking over troubled puddles

The hustle is in my chest

No hustle no progress

Extremities of life in this process

The birth of a son

The death of another

With love I caress both mothers

And told ‘em whose in control is the one that’s above is

I walk where money talks and love stutters

The body language of a nation

Going though changes

The young become dangerous

Spent into anger

Anger gets sent through the chamber

It’s tough when your own look like strangers

We are the sons of gangsters and stone rangers

If he could how would Ernie Barnes paint us?

Look at the picture

It’s hard not to blame us

But time forgives in the Chi where the young die often

Do they end up in a coffin because we haven’t taught them?

Is it what we talkin’, we really ain’t walking

Dudes, hustlers, paid

How much did it cost them?

I find myself on the same corner that we lost them

Real talkin’ in their ear like a walkman

My thoughts been around the corner to the world

So when I see them I see my baby girl

The Lord lives among us

The youngest hunger, recover

Means to get it by anyways necessary under pressure

Children feeling lesser with the spill upon the dresser

Killer, willer aggressors

Destiny’s children, survivors, soldiers

In front of buildings their eyes look older

It’s hard to see blessings in a violent culture

Face against rappings

Sirens holsters – that ‘aint the way that Langston Hughes wrote us

So controllers on the shoulders of Moses

And Noah

We go from being Precious to Oprah

Cultivated to overcome

Ever since we came over

Seize the day in the way that you can see the determined

The soul that keeps burning. Shorty’s know to keep learning

Lessons in my life are like stripes that we earning

I took Grant’s advice that Christ is returning

Like a thief in the night

I write for beacons of light

For those of us in dark alleys and park valleys

Street hits spark valleys of the conscience

Conquerors of a contest

Even the unseen know that God watches

For one King’s dream he was able to Barack us

One King’s dream he was able to Barack us

One King’s dream he was able to Barack us

I don't actually have a running bloglist, but if I did I would add the-burning-house.com to that extremely short list: The premis of the blog is simple (and has little to do with Fashion.. double bonus). Thirsty blog readers rejoice, new posts are added daily and offer an unobstructed glimpse into what complete strangers hold near & dear to their heart.. (that's what turns you on right?) ...In a strange twist while I was reading the blog for the first time I actually found myself looking around identifying things around me i'd reach for if the walls around me went up in flames.... Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Needs

Elizabeth Báthory

Elizabeth Báthory is one of the most prolific serial killers in all of history.

She was born into nobility and was highly educated but also very vain.

One day, infuriated, Elizabeth struck one of her servant girls so hard that some blood dripped from her face onto Elizabeth’s hand and she immediately thought that her skin took on a glowing freshness of her young maid.

Elizabeth believed she had found the secret of eternal youth. After this, women were abducted and hung upside down, while they were still alive and their throats were slit to prepare Elizabeth’s bath.

The Countess of Transylvania and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls, with one witness attributing to them over 650 victims, though the number for which they were convicted was 80. Elizabeth herself was neither tried nor convicted.

Bob Marley

30 Years ago today this musical genius passed away from cancer at the age of 36.
We love you. We miss you.

Beyonce lets on the new name of her album “4″ in the latest issue of Billboard magazine.

The new album is called “4.” Aside from this being your fourth solo album, what significance does that number hold?
We all have special numbers in our lives, and 4 is that for me. It’s the day I was born. My mother’s birthday, and a lot of my friends’ birthdays, are on the fourth; April 4 is my wedding date.
How did the creative process begin with the new body of work?

I recorded more than 60 songs: everything I ever wanted to try, I just did it. I started off being inspired by [Afrobeat music pioneer] Fela Kuti. I actually worked with the band from “Fela!” [the hit Broadway musical based on his life] for a couple of days, just to get the feel for the soul and heart of his music; it’s so sexy, and has a great groove you get lost in. I loved his drums, all the horns, how everything was on the one. What I learned most from Fela was artistic freedom: he just felt the spirit. I also found a lot of inspiration in ’90s R&B, Earth, Wind & Fire, DeBarge, Lionel Richie, Teena Marie… I listened to a lot of Jackson 5 and New Edition, but also Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Prince. Add in my hip-hop influences, and you can hear how broad it is. I also gave myself more freedom to really belt out some songs, and bring soul singing back: I used a lot of the brassiness and grittiness in my voice that people hear in my live performances, but not necessarily on my records.

Transformation VS Change

"...But that is not the point. Where have you lost your truth? Where have you lost your being? Where have you lost your God? Where have you lost your happiness, your bliss? Better it will be before you go to the infinte maze of the outside world, better it will be to first look within. If you cannot find there then it is all right -- you go and search outside. But that has never happened. Whoever has looked within has always found -- because it is already there -- only a look is needed, a conversion, a returning of consciousness. Just a deep look."

 Mira said...

In the words of Shawn, we don’t believe you, you need more people.

I could go on and on about Bin Laden, the story about how they tracked him down via his courier who spoke about Bin Laden with his friend while they were on the phone, the so called sea burial etc. etc., but I'm kind of done with the whole C.I.A. vs. Al-Qaeda subject. I've had too much of it since the fake news broke out on the first of the month.

But let me tell you this; if we really did get Bin Laden, he would've have been hanging from the highest tree for everybody to see, dead or alive. But we did not catch him and that is why there are zero pictures released and all supposedly because they do not want to shock the world and be responsible for any attacks coming from vicious terrorists. After all, killing Bin Laden and releasing proof will do that, but killing thousands of babies and women in Iraq and Afghanistan does not make them angry at all, it only tickles them.

As told by Abu Muar Zarq, Bin Laden was and is always wearing a bomb vest. Any sign of the enemy being close and he would’ve made himself a martyr according to his own views.

And let me also tell you this, Bin Laden is a Wahabi meaning that he practises Wahhabism, he would never live in a villa let alone be caught dead in it. Too bad the ‘’super elite military unit’’ didn’t get any schooling on cultural relativism to figure this one out.

And most of all, on 02-11-2007 Benazir Bhutto, first female prime minister of Pakistan, told David Frost in a interview that Bin Laden was already murdered by the Pakistani militant Ahmed Omar Saeed. On 27-12-2007, she was assassinated.

Listen: Bob Marley

Bob Marley on how to love a woman

“You may not be her first, her last, or her only. She loved before she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters? She’s not perfect - you aren’t either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can. She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break - her heart. So don’t hurt her, don’t change her, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than she can give. Smile when she makes you happy, let her know when she makes you mad, and miss her when she’s not there.”

Al Qaeda Vs Americans

That was the statement issued by Al Qaeda today who have just acknowledged the death of their leader Osama Bin Laden. The Associated Press unveils more info about possible attacks the terrorist organization may have against the US and Americans. The confirmation came as newly uncovered documents found in bin Laden’s residence revealed al-Qaida plans for derailing an American train on the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Terror experts have said bin Laden’s death on Monday was a setback for al-Qaida but the threat of attacks remains and could even spike in coming days from individuals or small extremist groups inspired to take revenge for the killing. The statement, dated Tuesday but posted Friday on militant websites, opens the way for the group to name a successor to bin Laden. His deputy Ayman al-Zawahri is now the most prominent figure in the group and a likely contender to take his place.
“The blood of the holy warrior sheik, Osama bin Laden, God bless him, is too precious to us and to all Muslims to go in vain,” the statement said. “We will remain, God willing, a curse chasing the Americans and their agents, following them outside and inside their countries.”
“Soon, God willing, their happiness will turn to sadness,” it said, “their blood will be mingled with their tears.”

After “repeatedly asking” nicely famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin has decided to file a lawsuit against fashion house YSL for producing a line of shoes with a red sole, a staple for the designer. According to the official report:

The crimson underside has been a fixture of Louboutin’s gravity-defying heels since 1992, when the designer first painted red nail polish on the bottom of one pair, says a lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court.
“Defendants use of red footwear outsoles that are virtually identical to plaintiff’s Red Sole Mark is likely to cause and is causing confusion, mistake and deception among the relevant purchasing public as to the origin of the infringing footwear,” the lawsuit says.

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have named their newborn twin boy and girl Moroccan Scott Cannon (boy), and Monroe Cannon (girl).

Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon, with the nickname “Roc”. Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name.
The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan!
Their daughter’s name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah’s rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life.
