Gates was arrested July 16 for disorderly conduct after a 911 call reported two men on Gates front porch and a possible break-in. Gates' arrest in his own home by a white police officer sparked a national debate over racial profiling and police conduct. The controversy intensified when Obama said police "acted stupidly" when they arrested his friend. The charge was later dropped.Well, President Barack Obama said he chose his words badly when he reacted to his friend's arrest and extended his invitation to Crowley and Gates for a chat at the White House over beers. How cool/odd is that? I don’t really know how to feel about this whole sito, I’m all for mediation but this just seems a bit odd to me. “They'll come over, one beer will lead to two, two will lead to nine, next thing you know everyone will forget that they were ever mad at each other," he said. "They'll start doing Jaeger shots out of Betsy Ross' thimble. They'll make prank phone calls on the Red Phone. Someone will be like, `Let's TP the Capitol building!'"- Fallon That's wassup...but I'm on the fence about this...you?

Hmm when i first heard the story i thought exactly what you did, especially since i've had it happen to my brother, dad etc BUT the more stuff has come up I'm begining to think that maybe the cop wasnt a racist, just a cop on a power trip who got mad b/c a proffesor wouldnt kiss his patotiee
they r talking about this on the radio lots in la.. the consensus is that obama and the prof both 'over reacted'
Personally, I think the cops were totally in the WRONG & should publicly apologize... even though that really doesn't change what happened & whether they're really racist or not.
Yeah, most people said they overreacted but truthfully, how would YOU feel if you got arrested going into your OWN house b|c the police thought you were trying to break in?
i get what you're saying and it is in the wrong BUT what i'm trying to discuss is why is obama callin his boy over and the cop to talk about it...settle it its done why come to the white house kick it drink some 40s and sqaush it..i dont understand i dont think its professional, or at least its not something the public should know about
obama has said that he hopes this can serve as a 'teachable' moment with regards to race relations in the US, whic obv still had a ways to go
Obama=president/drunken mediator..lol not a good look for the pres
I think people are overreacting to the fact that he said "let's discuss this over beers". I think what the president is trying to do is 'meet the two sides where they live', so to speak. It seems like he's trying to make this an informal pow-wow type deal to get the two men talking and airing grievances in a way that doesn't get blown out of proportion by the media. I'm sure that the President has the good sense not to get drunk or buzzed...if he drinks one full beer, I'd be surprised. He's just trying to take some of the men to ease up before things get even more tense. Men have a way of bonding over beer and sports.
When I first heard the story, I was not surprised at all by what happened. Racial profiling is something that happens every day in the African-American community. For the first time President Obama addressed an issue, that I felt he had been trying to avoid.
As a man of color, he spoke out on an issue that has been a major concern for man and ongoing problem. I do not feel the President's word choice was wrong, he said what was on his mind. I do not think he should have to apologize for speaking his mind either. Even though it's 2009 racism is still a taboo subject in America.
