Camera Shy

This weekend I plan to walk into BestBuy (or any camera retailer) and make'n it Rain in exchange for my first digital Camera.. I dont' ask ya'll for much but i'm hoping you can provide me with you recommendations on what camera to get (or what camera not to get) I'v done a small amount of research on the topic and realize i dont' need need a digital SLR at this point... a good point an shoot would be fine... seeing as everyone is a photographer these days i'm hoping you guys can help me out with this...
